Look Up In The Sky, It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s The Classic Superman

The DCEU has been know for its dark superhero movies. Justice League was Warner Bros. first attempt to add some humor to it. It also had one more major change: the return of the Classic Superman and Henry Cavill who plays Superman is very happy about it.7

Henry Cavill Explains The Change

Henry Cavill has played the character in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League movies. In the earlier movies, the Superman character was not a very enjoyable character. He was a very sour person, with no regard to destruction or in reality, life (he did after all break general Zod’s neck). This goes completely against what Superman has been known for in the comics and in the older movies played by other actors.

SPOILER ALERT! Superman comes back alive in Justice League and returns to the tenants that we have always known Superman to have. He even smiles in the movie 😀

Henry Cavill himself is overjoyed in the direction they are taking Superman. he explains this to The Los Angeles Times …..

I’ve always enjoyed the traditional, very classic view on Superman in the comic books. I think there’s an enormous complexity to that character. I know when I was working with Joss [Whedon] he and I saw eye-to-eye on some of the aspects of Superman. That paragon of hope. That ideal. That wonderful feeling of, ‘Oh, good, Superman’s here!’ I have also developed a very personal and protective relationship over this character, and it was just lovely to have the opportunity to smile and feel good.

It’s interesting to note that he mentions Joss Whedon and not Zack Snyder. Did Zack Znyder still have Superman the same way he had in the previous movies and Joss changed it up?

Cavill is under contract for one more movie but what that will be we dont know yet (Justice League 2, Man of Steel 2, something else). But “this” Superman seems to make Henry Cavill excited about the Return to the Classic Superman the land maybe wanting him to do more after his commitment.

There’s a wonderful opportunity to tell the Superman story. Now there is a fantastic chance to show Superman in his full colors and tell a very complex, character-driven movie that is based on story and have that wonderful sensation of hope and happiness. A feel-good movie with lessons laced in there as well.

So do you like the Return to the Classic Superman?

Remember the “S” stands for hope …. Up, Up, and Away!
