The Definition of a Superhero
So what is a superhero? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines a superhero as a fictional hero having extraordinary or superhuman powers. But is a superhero a person behind a mask or someone who goes above and beyond what a normal person does. A person who gives of themselves to the benefit of others. A superhero is someone who saves the day or makes the day brighter for someone else. You dont need super powers to wear a superhero costume. The costume itself has its own super power, the power of “hope”.
This is the first in a series of true stories with real people. We hope that you will join us in this journey as we talk about everyday people and what they do to make the world a better place.

Fort Worth Police Officer Damon Cole – The Beginning
Being a police officer is being a hero in his own right but Police Office Damon Cole goes above and beyond. He’s been a police officer since 1999 and has dealt with countless children over the years. Through the years he wanted the children in the neighborhood to trust him. So a while ago, he had a Superman logo sewn on his bullet proof vest. Whenever he had to deal with a child while on duty, he told them that he had a secret that they would have to keep. He then showed them his Superman logo under his shirt. It helped build trust and confidence through the neighborhood.
A Superhero Helping Others
The above was just the beginning. Over the years, Officer Damon Cole has used his own time and spent his own money to visit hospitals and kids all around. He has visited 17 states and has dressed up as the following superheroes:
Batman (The Dark Knight & Dawn of Justice)
Optimus Prime from Transformers
Bumblebee from Transformers
Baymax from Big Hero 6
The Incredible Hulk
Armored Batman from Dawn of Justice (Batman vs Superman)
Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Upon visiting the children, he gives them an arm band with “Heroes and Cops Against Childhood Cancer” on it. His message to them is to NEVER GIVE UP. That’s why he does all this. To show them that someone cares and to never give up.
Officer Cole drives around in a 2012 customized Batman / Superman Dodge Charger. On both sides of his car, it has the words “REAL HEORES” and underneath that there are the names of the children he has visited along with the date for those that lost their battle with cancer or other illnesses. All of these children have had a large impact on his life and he wanted a way to honor their memory.
A Superhero ‘s Work is Never Done
So what’s next for Officer Cole. He continues on his quest to bring joy to those that suffer. To be a shining light to those in need. He will continue to travel across the country if it means that he can he make one kid’s life happier.
