Review of Young Justice “Beneath” Season 2 Episode 5

“He knows too much, eliminate him!”

The girls venture to Bialya in search of alien technology, while Jaime searches for his friend in the fifth episode of Young Justice: Invasion, entitled “Beneath.”  While it was nice seeing the ladies in action against Simon and his goons, the highpoint of the episode would have to be Jaime’s adventure in El Paso, and his internal struggle with the scarab’s artificial intelligence.  For a young kid, Jaime exhibits great poise, by not giving into the “easy way” that his internal-counterpart would like him to take.  Although, I would have enjoyed seeing Jaime use his plasma cannon on that no good excuse of a parental guardian.  As I said in my previous review, the writers have been giving us excellent character building moments as the season has progressed.  Like many of you, I would love to see more interactions with Nightwing, Red Arrow, Aqualad and Kid Flash, but at least Greg Weisman and his writing team are developing the new characters that we’ve been introduced to this season more extensively.  I have a feeling that once we’ve been more exposed to this new team, that the story will shift to encompass all of the main superheroes.  Do you like the direction the story is going in, or would you rather spend more time with the previous season’s team?

With Blue Beetle handling “family business” in El Paso, the lovely Alpha Squad members of Batgirl, Bumblebee, Wonder Girl and Miss Martian were tasked with the mission to uncover alien tech in the highly volatile region of Bialya.  Wonder Girl may not be the stealthy warrior that Batgirl and M’gann are, but she can sure throw a punch.  I found myself gleefully anticipating her ability to catch the falling plane by herself, but it appears that she does not yet possess the same strength as her mentor, Princess Diana.  Young Justice continually stresses the importance of teamwork, so even if Cassie could not stop the plane’s rapid descent, the other members of Alpha Squad were quick to lend a helping hand.

Linking the two unique stories of Alpha Squad and Blue Beetle at the end was a nice touch on the part of the writers.  I hope Jaime is able to save his friend.  What were your thoughts on this week’s episode of Young Justice?  Do you think we’ll see the return of Kid Flash and Artemis to the team anytime soon?  As always, let me know what you think in the comments section below.

Latest Trailer For ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ ….

‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ is a story you’re not likely to read in any history books, but it looks like an entertaining tale nonetheless.  The extensive footage I saw at this year’s Wonder Con gave me high hopes for the movie’s success, due to the filmmakers’ reassurance that they were just having a good time.  I don’t think anyone on this film is taking their parts too seriously, so the movie should be a lot of fun when it’s released on June 22, 2012.  What are your thoughts on the trailer?

Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the bloodthirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Fantasies can be such dangerous things, which is something Colin Farrell is about to discover in this new version of director Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 sic-fi classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.  The visual effects look awesome, and for a movie that cost over $200 million to make, they better look stunning.  Let’s just hope the story can match the visual splendor.  What do you think of the TV Spot?

Charlize Theron looks poised to add another excellent performance to her resume with ‘Snow White & the Huntsman,’ which premiers in theaters on June 1, 2012.  This action-adventure-fantasy tale looks stunning, and the five minute sizzle reel that I saw at this year’s Wonder Con only heightened my curiosity for the film.  What do you think of Charlize Theron’s portrayal of the Evil Queen?

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet–or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin.

The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles. Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

Young Justice “Happy New Year” Season 2 Premier Review ……

“That’s right, Gamma Squad rules!

Do you ever have those moments when you try to put into words just how incredible something is, and whatever you end up saying comes out in a jumbled mess?  Well, this is me trying to describe to you how fantastic the season two premier of Young Justice was.  I’m not trying to say that this series is the greatest ever made, but I do think that it’s the strongest in a long line of excellent Warner Brothers/DC collaborations.  Greg Weisman and his team are doing a marvelous job by giving us action and character development in equal measurements.  I’m trying hard not to “geek-out” right now, but how cool was it to see Batgirl, Wonder Girl, Lobo, and Nightwing all in the same episode?  What’s more interesting are the characters we didn’t see, like Red Arrow, Aqualad, Artimes, and Kid Flash.  Where were they?

Okay, so enough about the high amounts of “fan-service” that this episode shelled out, time to talk about the story.  Just last week during the season one finale, Vandal Savage was in control of the Justice League.  Six of these members were mysteriously absent for several hours, and no one knows what transpired during this time lapse.  Jump five years into the future, and it appears that the entire JL are wanted criminals in several planetary systems.  Whatever they did under Savage’s control, it wasn’t good.  With this five year leap into the future, the Young Justice group we knew has changed dramatically.  Looks like Miss Martian’s relationship with Conner didn’t work out, and it was cool to see Tim Drake as Robin and Dick as Nightwing.  My only problem with this transition is that it seems too sudden.  While I was thrilled to see all of these new characters, I felt like five years was too big a gap between season one and season two.  I hope that the writers give us a deeper backstory on what our favorite heroes have been up to these last five years.

I’m interested in what you thought of all this marvelous madness that transpired in “Happy New Year.”  Being bombarded with new characters can be overwhelming at times, but I found this episode to be highly entertaining.  Were any of you pleased with the new additions to season two, or in the words of Dick Grayson, “were you just whelmed?”  Also, who was your favorite new character?

Behind The Scenes Look At ‘Dark Shadows’ !!!

Check out this behind the scenes look at Director Tim Burton’s latest collaboration with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, which premiers on May 11, 2012.  As much as I enjoy a good Burton flick, I’m not sure how thrilled I am with this movie.  The comedy looks very obvious, and the story doesn’t intrigues me.  Without having seen the film I could be completely wrong, but ‘Dark Shadows’ may be one of those summer blockbusters where I wait for the DVD.  What are your thoughts on the movie?
