‘Iron Man 3′ Gets Ashley Hamilton, William Sadler and (Kinda) Jon Favreau !

For those concerned about the fate of Iron Man 3 without original  director and spiritual guide Jon Favreau, here’s something  that’ll make you rest a little easier: He will be involved with next year’s  movie… as an actor, at least. And he’s not the only one.

The  Hollywood Reporter has news that Favreau will return as “Happy” Hogan in  Iron Man 3, reportedly closing a deal to star in the third installment after  making cameo appearances in the first two movies. He’ll be joined by Ashley  Hamilton, who according to Variety will play 1980s-era armored villain Firepower,  with Latino  Review reporting that Die Hard 2 veteran William Sadler will also  be appearing in the movie in some unknown role.

Already announced for the  movie – Marvel’s first post-Avengers project – are Ben Kingsley, Guy  Pearce, James Badge Dale and Rebecca Hall, alongside returning stars Robert  Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow. Shooting started on the project this week, with  Shane Black replacing Favreau as director and a script written by No  Heroics creator Drew Pearce and Black.

Iron Man 3 will be  released May 3, 2012.

OK “Avengers” Move Over – Time For “The Dark Knight” to “Rise” !!!!!

Yes, yes, Avengers: You’ve had your day, being much-beloved and breaking box office records and everything. But this summer superhero movie showdown is only getting started, as Warner Bros. is patiently reminding everyone with two new television spots and a host of still images showcasing Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

Both spots premiered last night, giving American Idol audiences the chance they’d all been waiting for to see Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle flirt a little more before she steals his car (Like we’d expect anything less from Gotham’s favorite cat burglar). Not so much new footage in these spots, but just enough to remind us this’ll be the movie where Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne and friends try their hand at witty banter in an awkward fashion.

In addition to the new mini-trailers, Warner Bros. has also released new banners and promotional images for the movie offering an idea of the scale of the carnage that awaits us when the movie opens July 20.

Robocop IS Batman !!!

It’s the Robocop/Batman crossover that you never expected, as the original Officer Murphy, Peter Weller, takes on the cowl and cape as the voice of Bruce Wayne and his alter ego in the upcoming animated adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

Weller’s Batman will join Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter (She plays Alex, middle child of the Dumphies) in the animated feature, with Winter taking on the role of Carrie Kelly, the new Robin. Rounding out the voice cast of the movie are actors David Shelby, Wade Williams and Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the psychiatrist responsible for the Joker’s release back into society.

Warners is going all out on the adaptation, with animation veterans Bob Goodman and Jay Oliva taking the writing and directing chores respectively of this two-part version of the classic story (The first installment will be released this year, with the second appearing early 2013). According to executive producer Bruce Timm, “Dark Knight Returns is the granddaddy of beloved comics properties that we’ve ever attempted. There is definitely the imperative to get it right.” Wondering how close they’ll get? Here are some pics to help you decide…

The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 will be released on DVD and BluRay this fall.

First Image and Video for “Arrow” From the CW …..

Now that the CW has announced their full fall schedule, we’re learning more about Arrow, the new series that may do for Green Arrow what Smallville did for Superman – although, it has to be hoped, a little better and without so much pouting. Fancy a new image and a clip from the pilot showing our hero in action? Aim your arrows at the “More” button.

As the officially-released teaser demonstrates, this incarnation of Green Arrow — Sorry, “Arrow” — looks set to be a little more serious than the one that appeared on Smallville, and a little bit more intense about punishing tennis balls that dare to try to bounce away from him:

No wonder he works out in an unused warehouse; you can’t just shoot arrows into the walls of your local 24 Hour Fitness without getting into expensive trouble. I mean, so I’ve heard.

The show will air on Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m. this fall, paired with the long-running Supernatural; we have between now and then to work out just why superhero archers are suddenly becoming so popular in the mainstream. It’s because shooting arrows is cheaper than CGI Hulks, isn’t it? I can understand that.

CARE BEARS STARE!!! ‘Care Bears’ Getting a CG Animated Revival on The Hub This Summer …..

The world may just have gotten its head around the existence of Bronies, but following the successful revival of My Little Pony, the next ironic-gender-appropriation-of-a-nostalgic-toy-brand is already being dreamt up by Hasbro and its television subsidiary, the Hub. Care Bears fans, are you ready for… “Belly-Bros?”

Next month sees the debut of Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot, a show described in PR sent to Cartoon Brew as “a modernized, CGI-animated version of the classic animated cartoon” that sees “everyone’s favorite bears and their iconic Belly Badges… transformed with today’s technology into a series that kids and families can enjoy together.”

The same PR also describes the show as featuring “the same re-imagined CG animation and spirit of friendship and caring that made shows like “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic a cult hit,” apparently being unable to tell the difference between something that looks like this -

- and something that looks like this:

Yes, the two may both be created using computers, but that’s hardly “the same re-imagined CG animation” in both shows (If you’re wondering what’s happening in the Care Bears image, by the way, Grumpy Bear is unhappy because Tenderheart Bear would rather show off his mad rhyming “skillz” than eat the cereal that Grumpy had made for him).

In case you’re wondering, “Belly-Bros” is a term offered by the Hub as a potential name for the legions of male fans who’ll enjoy this new Care Bears series as much as they do Friendship is Magic. If you’re not feeling it, however, they’re also suggesting “Care-Dudes,” which sounds more like the way that William S. Preston would describe someone who works in an assisted living facility.

Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot premieres June 2 at 8 a.m. on the Hub. We can only hope that it’ll feature a Care Bear Stare showdown every week.

Networks Pass on ‘Punisher’ and ‘Jessica Jones’ TV Shows, but ‘Hulk’ Still in Play

You might think, after successfully reinventing the superhero movie genre with a series that has just hit a high point with the multiple-record-breaking The Avengers movie, that television networks would be eager for a piece of the Marvel superhero pie. Turns out, you’d be partially wrong: Of the most recent flurry of Marvel properties vying for live action television adaptations, currently only one is showing much strength. But then, we already knew that Hulk is the strongest of them all.

During a conversation with reporters ahead of the official upfront presentation to advertisers, ABC entertainment president Paul Lee revealed that, while the network was still developing a Hulk TV series with Marvel TV and Guillermo Del Toro, the network had passed on a series based on Brian Michael Bendis’ cult favorite detective series Alias. Telling reporters that, despite the latter show stalling, he’d like to “see some Marvel projects come to television,” Lee confirmed that Hulk is still a go, if a somewhat delayed one. “It wasn’t going to be ready this season but we hope it’s going to be ready for next season,” he explained.

AKA Jessica Jones — renamed from Alias to avoid confusion with the ABC series starring Jennifer Garner — had been in the works since December 2010, with Twilight and Dexter veteran Melissa Rosenberg producing and writing the pilot script. Hulk has been in preparation a couple of months longer, with Del Toro and Battlestar Galactica‘s David Eick in place as executive producers. According to Del Toro, despite the character’s prominence in Avengers, the television series would take place in a different continuity – something that may ultimately doom the project if Disney decides to move ahead with a full-scale movie spin-off for the character from the hit Joss Whedon flick.

While ABC is keeping the familial synergy alive (The network, like Marvel, is owned by Walt Disney Co.), Fox seems to be closing the door on its partnership with Marvel TV with the news that its potential Punisher television series – co-created with Criminal Minds‘ Ed Bernero – has also met an untimely end with the network not picking up the pilot. Unlike the promising AKA Jessica Jones, however, this one might be considered a mercy killing; according to sources, the series would have recast Frank Castle as an NYPD cop who went after those who slipped through the fingers of the system by himself after clocking out every night. Somehow, I don’t think that would’ve really appealed to fans of the merciless, messed-up character as written by Greg Rucka, Garth Ennis or Jason Aaron…

What We’ve All Been Waiting For — Dynamic Forces Unveils the ‘Watchmen’ Toaster – LOL

To everyone who thought that Before Watchmen was as crass as Warner Bros would get in terms of strip-mining the legacy of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen, bless you for your optimism and belief in the inherent goodness of humanity. However, you might want to look away before we tell everyone else about the official Watchmen toaster.

No, it’s not a joke (well, not in that sense, anyway): There really is going to be an official Watchmen toaster that will not only heat bread and bagels to your desired level of tasty, crunchy brownness, but will do so while also imprinting said bread or bagels with iconic artwork from the classic comic – because you demanded it!

To be fair to DC Comics, this actually doesn’t have too much to do with them; it’s part of a line of Warner Bros. television and movie merchandise toasters coming out in September from Dynamic Forces, alongside toasters branded with logos and artwork from The Wizard of Oz, Friends, The Goonies and various other favorites. “Once the timer dings, it’s all fun with your Warner Bros. favorites right in the middle of your morning slice of toast,” according to the official PR from Dynamic Forces. Yes, because if Watchmen‘s Rorschach was anything, it was “all fun.”

There’s really only one response to the existence of this product. Walter?

YES!!!! The CW Orders a Full Season of ‘Arrow’ Based on DC Comics’ Emerald Archer !!!

Someone at the CW must really, really like Oliver Queen. After a multi-year stint as a supporting character on the long-running Smallville, the television network has promoted Green Arrow to star status with the announcement of a series order for the hour-long show Arrow.

Despite spending five years in Clark Kent’s shadow during the sixth to tenth seasons of the surprisingly long-lived Superman-in-training series, Arrow isn’t a spin-off of Justin Hartley’s Smallville superhero. Instead, it’s a reboot of the character developed by Green Lantern screenwriters Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim — along with Fringe co-executive producer (and one-time Green Arrow and Black Canary comic writer) Andrew Kreisberg — that’ll star The Vampire Diaries‘ Stephen Amell as “billionaire playboy Oliver Queen,” who returns to Starling City after five years of life on a remote island in the Pacific a changed man. From the CW’s official description of the project:

While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

Given the name of Queen’s own Alfred (Apparently, like Smallville, Arrow likes to play up the Batman-like qualities in the character’s backstory), it looks like Andy Diggle and Jock’s 2007 retelling of the character’s origin in Green Arrow: Year One may be an influence on this particular version of the character.

Alongside Amell, the cast for Arrow includes Supernatural‘s Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, The OC‘s Willa Holland as Oliver’s sister Thea and genre veteran Susanna Thompson as the Queen matriarch, Moira.

The series will debut on the CW this fall with a pilot scripted by Kreisberg and Guggenheim and directed by Game of Thrones director David Nutter.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield Discuss Playing ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

Latest ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Movie Stills !!!

Your superhero movie attention span may feel like it’s been taxed to the max by both the Friday opening of The Avengers movie and yesterday’s release of the final trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, but Sony would be remiss not to remind you that July also sees the release of Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man, right? Apparently so, because the studio has released two more promo images from the film with Peter Parker looking a little worse for the wear.

As if these two new images — showing once again that, with great powers comes great costume upkeep and likelihood of running into trouble with the law — weren’t enough to whet your appetite for the Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone-starring movie, then perhaps the Thursday release of an all-new (and, presumably, final) trailer for the movie might convince you that this will be more watchable than watching what happens when Tobey Maguires gets infected by a jazz-loving monster suit from space.*

[*Editors note: I confess that I love Spidey 3 for exactly that scenario! -- Caleb]

The Amazing Spider-Man is released on July 3.
