First Look at Frank Quitely’s BATMAN, INCORPORATED #1 Variant !!!

DC Comics caught me off guard this morning. We’re all looking forward to the new BATMAN, INCORPORATED series. Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham are going to deliver big things but today DC exclusively revealed the Frank Quitely variant for the first issue.

It may not fully reflect what’s going on inside. It may be a simple image of Batman and Robin. But it just looks so good.

BATMAN, INCORPORATED is on sale May 23, 2012.

What Happened After RAW – Cenas Birthday Bash !!!

Credit: Charles Cress & PW Torch

After RAW went off the air, they set up the dark main event.

John Cena & WWE champion C.M. Punk beat Chris Jericho & Kane. During the match, Punk did some more funny staggering and saluted John Laurinaitis.

After the match, WWE threw John Cena a birthday party. Vince McMahon, Triple H, and the wrestlers in street clothes came out to sing Happy Birthday to Cena. Great Khali sang solo. The Divas then came out for a “pig pile” on Cena.

Marvel Anime DVD Giveaway !!!

Comics and anime, some feel they could go hand-in-hand and others feel they should remain separate. Marvel Television, Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan (SPEJ) and Madhouse have recently shown us that the two can be combined. Those with the cable network, G4, are fully aware of what these shows are like.

Each DVD includes 12 episodes and bonus features. The X-Men anime picks up with the team getting back together after they went their separate ways following the death of one of their teammates. Iron Man has Tony Stark arriving in Japan with the plan to get closer to world peace by building an Arc Reactor which will provide limitless (and free) energy to the world. Obviously his plan to retire from being Iron Man won’t last long.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have provided us with some copies to give away. We have three sets and we’ll make this easy. In the comments below, tell us what Marvel character you feel is best suited for being re-imagined in an anime style. It could be any of the characters that have already received anime series or it could be one that you’re hoping to see someday in this form.

  • Three winners will be chosen at random.
  • One entry per person.
  • And our lawyers insist the contest is open only to those in the United States. (Yes it’s a bummer but our hands are tied by all the legal red tape).
  • The contest will begin immediately and end Sunday, April 29, 2012 at midnight PT.

Here’s a clip from each to whet your appetite.

I’ll post my thoughts on the episodes in the next couple days.

Marvel Announces New Digital Storefront, Free Digital Comics With In-Store Purchase

Earlier today Marvel unveiled their Marvel Digital Comics Shop, the latest place where you can purchase your Marvel comics digitally on both your iOS and Android tablet. But wait, it gets better. Marvel also unveiled plans to make all their super hero comic books priced at $3.99 available for download digitally for free with the purchase of said comic. That means that every $3.99 Marvel comic book, starting in June, will include a code for free download using one of Marvel’s various platforms.

Then, come June – all Marvel super hero comics priced at $3.99 at your local comic shop will include codes for free digital copies of those same issues on the Marvel Comics app for Apple iOS and Android devices, the Marvel Digital Comics Shop and the Comics by comiXology app and web store all at no extra cost! That’s right, the most-talked-about comics in the industry—including Avengers, Captain America, Invincible Iron Man, Mighty Thor,Amazing Spider-Man. Wolverine & The X-Men and more—will come packed with a code to ensure fans have the most critically acclaimed stories with them anytime, anywhere.

The fact that these books will be available for download for free with in-store purchase is a pretty big deal and makes Marvel appear to support local comic shops. So will this change digital comics? Well, it will certainly put an edge of DC Comics, who started their day and date digital initiative last September, but continue to charge an additional dollar for their digital comics — even if you’ve already purchased the hard copy. What do you think about Marvel’s new digital storefront? Do you think that by giving the digital comic away will make Marvel books appear more enticing to readers? Does this influence the way you view digital comic books?

A Behind The Scenes Look of “The Avengers” Featuring Scarlett Johansson !

We’re now less than two weeks away from the release of Marvel Studio’s ‘The Avengers,’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson.  Here’s a behind the scenes look featuring the Black Widow herself.  Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

The Avengers Assembled… A SuperHero In Every Aisle — at Target !!!

A new Target ad campaign titled “A Superhero in Every Aisle” has assembled the  Avengers from a wide variety of household objects, ranging from action  figures to pencils to an inordinate number of Dr. Pepper cans with their logos  prominently on display. Product placement… too strong… to resist! Much like  the recent line of super-cool kids toys, the ad campaign unfortunately omits  the only female member of the line-up (along with Hawkeye), so I guess we’ll  never know what Scarlett Johansson would look like if she were made out of golf  balls and iPods. Read on to the see the rest, which are admittedly pretty  cool-looking. [via Gizmodo, Nerd Approved]

Valiant Entertainment Reinterprets Their Logo ….

Valiant Entertainment

To officiate its return to monthly publishing this May, Valiant Entertainment is proud to unveil a new interpretation of the iconic Valiant compass logo by award-winning graphic designer Rian Hughes. The newly redesigned logo — along with Valiant’s new distinctive trade dress, also designed by Hughes — will first see print on May 2nd with the release of X-O Manowar #1 by New York Times best-selling author Robert Venditti (The Surrogates) and Eisner Award-winning artist Cary Nord (Conan).

“It is always a challenging and interesting project to design the visual identity of a publisher from the ground up in every detail — logo, trade dress, title logos — and to cohesively pull all these elements together so one strong visual identity emerges. Rebooting the Valiant line’s design has been one such great project. The Valiant characters have a strong fanbase and heritage, and so the new logos are fresh and modern as befits a forward-looking publisher while still paying tribute to the originals, just as has been done with the characters themselves,” said Hughes, whose previously published work includes logos and design pieces for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, MTV Networks, Virgin Airlines, Penguin Books, Archaia Entertainment, and the BBC, among many others.

Originally founded in 1989, Valiant Comics is one of the most successful comic publishers of all time and has featured work by many of the industry’s top creative talents, including Jim Shooter, Bob Layton, Barry Windsor-Smith, Joe Quesada, David Lapham, Bryan Hitch, Steve Ditko and many more. Reincorporated as Valiant Entertainment in 2007 by CEO Jason Kothari and Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani, the company is set to return to monthly comics publishing this summer with four new monthly titles featuring its most popular characters — X-O Manowar #1 in May, Harbinger #1 in June, Bloodshot #1 in July, and Archer & Armstrong #1 in August.

“Rian and our Executive Editor Warren Simons put an incredible amount of energy into making sure that the new logo and the look of the books themselves accurately reflect our perspective on what the Valiant Universe was and can be,” said Shamdasani.

“The day that Valiant titles return to the shelves of comics shops worldwide is one that fans have been eagerly awaiting for some time,” said Kothari. “This powerful, yet versatile new logo is the perfect way to signify a new era for Valiant both as a company and a premier creative brand.”

This is the just the latest in a series of creative endeavors Valiant has announced to coincide with its “Summer of Valiant” relaunch. Most recently, the publisher announced that it would be the first to produce animated, QR code-augmented covers for X-O Manowar #1 and Harbinger #1, as well as a series of “Pullbox Exclusive Variant” covers available only to comic shop customers who subscribe to Valiant’s new #1 issues.
